Wildwood, Walking and Wonderful News for Mom

December 10, 2011

Three miles from Mom's is Lake Okahumpka State Park.  Three paved walkways, of different mileage, makes it a fun place, and provides a convenient place for some daily exercise.  The Live Oaks draped with the Spanish Moss provide homes for Northern Parulas and Cardinals.  The lake is home to many Coots, and the shore to White Ibis, Great Blue Heron, Limpkin, and the air above to Black Vultures and Red-Tailed Hawks. We have also had a sighting of a Wood Stork, and have spotted Sandhill Cranes almost everyday.

Daytime temperatures have been very comfortable - 70-80's - during the day. The best thing about our first ten days in Florida has been the chance to be with my mother and stepdad.  She told us we were her "angels" as we approached the day for her knee surgery.  Yesterday, we had to report to the hospital by 5:45 am,  and by 8:30 am the repair was complete. When she woke up, her surgeon asked her if she was ready to go bowling!  That made her feel great.  I am sure it won't be too long...and it will be recorded here when it happens.
